2015 DRAFT Polk County Fire Rescue Protocols

This is a DRAFT copy of the new 2015 Clinical Care Guidelines. Minor changes are still being made with input from the field. The finalized version will be release soon.

DRAFT January 2015 Protocols (Updated (10-27-14).pdf

Pink Heals Tour

The Polk County Professional Firefighters Local 3531 and the Polk County Firefighters Benevolent Fund are pleased to announce that the, Pink Heals Tour of Pink Firefighting Apparatus that raise awareness for cancers and other diseases that affect women, will be making a stop in Polk County at Fort Blount Park in Bartow Nov. 6.

The event will be a barbecue lunch event where Polk County Firefighters will fire up the grill. Hamburger, hot dog and pulled pork sandwich lunches will be available for a donation. The event is schedule from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Pink Heals Tour was started back in 2007 with one fire truck painted pink, driven by one man, Dave Graybill. He used it to raise awareness and money in his community for women’s diseases. Now it has grown to a fleet of all types of apparatus and volunteers that drive them with their pink bunker gear.

Those personally affected by any type of cancer or disease is welcome to sign their name on the truck.

It is all nonprofit and the money that is raised at each tour stop stays in that community. The sale of Pink Heals t-shirts is the fundraiser.

Polk County Fire Rescue is honored to have the tour stop in Bartow and is striving to make this event something great and worthwhile. Please come join us in the park for lunch and to see this mobile tribute.

To All;

Contract negotiations have been completed and now it is time for ratification.  I have sent the revised contracts to Jay to have them posted on the Union website and I will have copies of them for review at the union hall during ratification.  The changes for this year are as follows.
2% pay increase retroative to September 29th
Established a sick leave pool
Changed PTO language to reflect payroll year like the County handbook
Established clear and defined tuition reimbursement/staff development language
Added Captain language
Added ride-up language for Lieutenant to Medical Supervisor
Removed temporary language in paramedic pay article
Removed language referencing the credit union.
I wish it could have been more, especially the pay increase.  It was another tough year of negotiations and while the economy is turning around, the fire fund will be in bad shape this fiscal year.  We can only hope things turn around for us all next year.  We will be voting on the contract Wednesday and Thursday, October 29th and 30th at the union hall.  We will have someone there from 8am to 8pm both days to make it easier for you all to vote.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Jay.
Thank you
